Indigo Original Encaustic Painting

$200.00

Immerse yourself in the depths of this indigo painting. The deep blue hues sweep across the wood panel evoking a sense of mystery, calm, and quiet strength. Subtle variations in shade—ranging from deep, inky blues to softer, smoky tones—are interrupted by a splash of white cutting across the painting like an ocean wave breaking on the surface. The splash of white evokes a moment of clarity breaking through the depths, adding a sense of motion and balance that beautifully complements the deep indigo tones.

This encaustic painting features layers of molten beeswax and pigment, applied and fused to a wood panel, resulting in a smooth, glasslike surface.

Each stroke reveals intricate details—swirling patterns, delicate waves, and organic imperfections—that bring the painting to life. The unique translucency of the wax creates an almost ethereal glow, shifting with the light and offering something new to discover with every glance.

Indigo is the perfect addition to any space where you want to create a sense of moody tranquility. The deep indigo palette pairs beautifully with neutral or muted tones, making it a versatile piece for a variety of interior styles.

Let this painting transform your home into a sanctuary, where art and emotion intertwine to inspire a daily sense of peace and wonder. Bring it into your life and allow its quiet strength to echo your own.

This 9”x12” painting is mounted to a neutral white mat board and framed in a simple and modern white oak frame.

  • 9” x 12” wood panel (13” x 17” x 1.5” framed dimensions).

  • Sold framed and ready to hang.

  • Every effort has been made to ensure the colors are correctly represented on screen but please allow for slight variations.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

WHAT IS ENCAUSTIC?

Encaustic is an ancient artistic technique that can be seen in museums around the world today. Encaustic comes from the Greek word enkaustikos which means “to burn in” referring to the process of fusing with heat. The medium is melted and applied with a brush or a variety of other tools. Each layer is then reheated with a torch to fuse it to the previous layer…

It’s essentially painted with fire.

ENVIRONMENTAL MINDFULNESS

I’ve mindfully developed my process and business practices to cause the least amount of harm to the environment as possible.

I use sustainable and recycled shipping materials and occasionally create my own pigments from rocks and other natural materials. And since my work wouldn’t be possible without bees, I plant wildflowers, hang bee houses and financially support local beekeepers and organizations working to save the bees.

QUESTIONS?

CARING FOR ENCAUSTIC ART

Encaustic paintings are archival, but as with any fine art, care should be given to them. Take care not to scratch or nick the surface or damage the edges. The wax will not melt unless exposed to temperatures over 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Leaving a painting in a car on a hot or freezing day would not be advisable nor hanging a painting in front of a window with direct sun.

Encaustic paintings bloom for up to 1-3 years as the wax continues to cure and harden. Wax bloom is a natural oxidation process, just like rust is the oxidation of iron. It appears as cloudy white dust over the painting. It is easily buffed out to reveal the original shine of the wax. You can buff the painting with a lint-free cloth or a nylon stocking. Take care not to press too hard as the wax can be damaged.

FRAMING

Your encaustic painting comes ready to hang and does not require framing. However, a floating frame is a beautiful option that can elevate a painting.

Framing under glass or acrylic is not recommended.
