Lemme guess…

You’re here to learn how the heck I paint with fire (more on that later). Or maybe you just want to get to know a little about me.

Either way, if you’re into being unapologetically you, rescue pups, the outdoors, and/or Tom Petty, we’re officially friends, so…

Welcome!

I am

Whitney Luallen.

ENCAUSTIC PAINTER. MOM. HBIC.

I’m hell-bent on creating a life I love living by helping people like you see the beauty of nature within.

Sounds like a tall order, right? But let me know if you can relate…

You live life doing what you think is the right order of things only to hit motherhood (or any equally monumental life event) and realize there’s more juice to be squeezed out of life if you start listening to your intuition and taking action on what feels right.

That’s kind of what happened to me.

Motherhood helped me see that my career in politics and campaigns was NOT fueling my soul (as much as it did pay the bills). So I quit my job and finally set out to live a life I love.

Nowadays, I don’t have it all figured out but I’m sure having fun listening to my inner voice and uncovering my passions to create something that feels unequivocally mine. And when I’m not snuggling my son or my rescue Arlo, you’ll find me in the art studio. Blowtorch in hand… wax-ruined manicure…

…painting with fire.

 Wild, but controlled.

Disciplined, but free.

That’s my encaustic painting art process in a nutshell.

Because when wax and pigment meet the flame, you need to know when to go with the flow, and when to reign it back in.

As with most things in life, the right playlist is critical to get in the zone. A simple word of inspiration—like ocean, sky, seashells—helps give my creativity loose boundaries to create in.

Layers of melted wax and pigments on wood fused with fire. Thoughtfully scraping away. Letting the materials sing. Repeat. Again and again. Slowly. With wildness and restraint, a nature-inspired painting emerges with a depth and dimension unique to encaustic art.

This is painting with fire.

I want my paintings to help you embrace your essence. To remind you to take a deep dive inward…

Reignite your inner fire…

And recognize the beauty within.

You deserve to love the space you’re in, you wild child, you.
