Echo of the Sea Original Encaustic Painting
‘Echo of the Sea’ captures the raw and untamed beauty of the ocean, offering a striking blend of movement and mood. The swirling whites and grays in the sky evoke stormy clouds rolling across an endless seascape, while the textured deep indigo waters below ripple with depth and mystery. Crafted using the encaustic technique, the layers of beeswax and pigment create a luminous, almost ethereal quality, inviting you to immerse yourself in its beautiful moodiness.
This piece speaks to the beauty in nature’s power. It’s a reminder of the balance between chaos and calm. Touches of silver - like the glimmering moon on the sea - accent the dark, dramatic waves and dynamic, shifting sky.
16” x 20” wood panel framed with 2-inch deep pewter painted wood frame. (Framed dimensions are 17.5” x 21.5” x 2”).
Sold framed. If you are interested in purchasing this painting without the frame, please email art@whitneyluallen.com. Please note this may not be possible with some paintings.
Every effort has been made to ensure the colors are correctly represented on screen but please allow for slight variations.
Paintings will ship from my studio in Georgia on Mondays and Tuesdays. This is to prevent the wax artwork from sitting in a hot/cold truck or warehouse. If you need your painting expedited, please email art@whitneyluallen.com.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
WHAT IS ENCAUSTIC?
Encaustic is an ancient artistic technique that can be seen in museums around the world today. Encaustic comes from the Greek word enkaustikos which means “to burn in” referring to the process of fusing with heat. The medium is melted and applied with a brush or a variety of other tools. Each layer is then reheated with a torch to fuse it to the previous layer…
It’s essentially painted with fire.
ENVIRONMENTAL MINDFULNESS
I’ve mindfully developed my process and business practices to cause the least amount of harm to the environment as possible.
I use sustainable and recycled shipping materials and occasionally create my own pigments from rocks and other natural materials. And since my work wouldn’t be possible without bees, I plant wildflowers, hang bee houses and financially support local beekeepers and organizations working to save the bees.

CARING FOR ENCAUSTIC ART
Encaustic paintings are archival, but as with any fine art, care should be given to them. Take care not to scratch or nick the surface or damage the edges. The wax will not melt unless exposed to temperatures over 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Leaving a painting in a car on a hot or freezing day would not be advisable nor hanging a painting in front of a window with direct sun.
Encaustic paintings bloom for up to 1-3 years as the wax continues to cure and harden. Wax bloom is a natural oxidation process, just like rust is the oxidation of iron. It appears as cloudy white dust over the painting. It is easily buffed out to reveal the original shine of the wax. You can buff the painting with a lint-free cloth or a nylon stocking. Take care not to press too hard as the wax can be damaged.
FRAMING
Your encaustic painting comes ready to hang and does not require framing. However, a floating frame is a beautiful option that can elevate a painting.
Framing under glass or acrylic is not recommended.
